Obituary

Carbondale- Barbara Faye Marks, 84, of Carbondale, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:57 PM, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Barbara was born on June 10, 1935 in Grand Tower to Oscar S. and Clara Catherine (Lynch) Bass. She married Tom Marks and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1979.

Barbara began her career as a pressor for Good Luck Glove Factory and later worked twenty five years at Horstman’s Cleaners in Carbondale prior to her retirement.

She was a member of Dutch Ridge Baptist Church in Pomona and a former member of the VFW Post 7190 Ladies Auxiliary and the Moose Ladies Auxiliary.


She is survived by her niece- Vicki Tucker Schramm of Starkville, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Norma Tucker, Madge Bass and Charles Bass all from Murphysboro.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Alto Pass Cemetery. Rev. Charles Allen will officiate. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Memorial arrangements were entrusted to Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.

Memorial donations are suggested to Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro and will be accepted at the cemetery or mailed to Pettett Funeral Home/ 1418 South St/ Murphysboro, IL 62966. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
