Obituary

Carolyn J. (Lipe) Cano, passed away at her home in Murphysboro, surrounded by family at
12:47 am on Monday, June 8, 2020. She was born June 4, 1942 in rural Carbondale Pomona
township to Elta and Alma (Travelstead) Lipe. Carolyn graduated Murphysboro High School in
1960. On April 21, 1962, she married Jack Camden Sr. Together, they had a son and a
daughter. On February 12, 1972 she married Xavier Cano. Together, they had a daughter.
Carolyn worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid for 25 years and retired in 2002.
Carolyn was very active in the Murphysboro WOTM Chapter 1024. She served as Precinct
Committeeman, secretary, and treasurer of the Jackson County Republican Central Committee
and as President of the Jackson County Republican Boosters Club and treasurer of the JCRCC
Women’s Club.
Carolyn was a member of the Mt. Carbon Christian Church and served as Church Clerk.
She is survived by son, Jack A. Camden Jr. (Tracie); daughters, Kimberly K. Camden, and
Sarah L. Cano Evans (Rob Jennings); three granddaughters, Jessica (Luke) Bogacki, Jennifer
(Kye) Worthen, and Christina Elbrecht; two grandsons, Zachary Evans and Nicholas Evans; six
great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Etherton; one sister-in-law, Eloise Lipe; and many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including best friends Chris Grissom, Terri Bryant,
Gloria Campos, Jackie Clover, Stephen Clover, and Nancy Armstrong.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Xavier Cano; brothers, Rondle, Rufus,
and Bobby Lipe; and sisters, Virginia Stearns, Wilma Tripp, Frances Brown, and Doris Maloney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Dutch Ridge Cemetery
in Pomona township. Pettett Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Southern Illinois specifically
Team Blue West for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made
in Carolyn’s honor to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

My Aunt Carolyn will be deeply missed. She was like an older sister when we were growing up. She was always there and now she is gone! RIP, her legacy now is her beautiful family she leaves behind!❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
