Obituary for Charles Edward McMannis, Sr.

Charles Edward McMannis, Sr., age 82, of Murphysboro, passed away at 3:58 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2020, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Charles was born on June 9, 1937, in Gorham, Illinois, to Walter McMannis and Ruby (Reames) McMannis.

He served in the U.S. Navy during peacetime.

Charles did tuck pointing and bricklaying.

Mr. McMannis was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro, and he was a member of the American Legion Post # 127.

Charles married Della "Carol" Qualls on January 29, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she preceded him in death on August 17, 2019.

He is survived by one son Charles McMannis, Jr. of Murphysboro;

five step children, Albert Walker, Kevin Wayne Walker of Arkansas, Stacy Bader of Murphysboro, Teresa Darlene Reed of DeSoto, and Jayne Culp of Missouri; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren;

two brothers and two sisters Floyd McMannis, Aleatha Mae Law, and Melba Jean Easterly, all of Murphysboro, and Lyle McMannis of Dupo;

and lots of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one step grandson Ryan Daniel Reed, two brothers Leon and Kenneth Ray McMannis, one sister Roberta Norton, and his parents.

A memorial gravesite will be scheduled at Murdale Gardens of Memory.
