Obituary

E. Philip Fager, Jr. passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Prairie Living at Chautauqua in Carbondale, Illinois.

He was born to Ernest P. Fager and Alice (Mileur) Fager on April 28, 1922, in the Old Zion part of Somerset Township.

Philip joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served his country until 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He married his first wife Geraldine "Gerry" O'Guinn on March 30, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro, IL and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1994, He later married Elizabeth Williams on October 7, 1995 at the First Lutheran Church of Murphysboro, and she survives.

Mr. Fager was a life long member of the First Lutheran Church of Murphysboro, IL and was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local # 638.

From 1954 to 1980, he and his brothers owned and operated Fager Brothers Construction, where they worked through out southern Illinois.

He is survived by five children, Wayne Fager of Sussex, WI, Dennis (Nancy) Fager of Murphysboro, IL, Barbara (Ron) Hansen of Nashville, TN, Mark (Donna) Fager of Gorham, IL, and Arthur (Catherine) Fager of Carbondale, IL:
eleven grandchildren, Eric (Emily) Fager, Rachel (Kent) Kreuger, Nathan (Kristin) Fager, Janelle (Jason) Pulcher, Benjamin Fager, Todd (Sarah) Fager, Melissa Korando, Nicholaus (Heather) Korando, Zachary (Tiffany) Fager, Adam (Amanda) Fager, and Elizabeth Fager; and twenty two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by four brothers, Danny, E.J., Victor, and Robert Fager, one sister Clarice Arbeiter, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday January 27, 2020 at The First Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Melissa Waterman officiating. Visitation will be Sunday January 26, 2020 From 5 P.M to 8 P.M. at Pettett Funeral Home, friends may also come to the church from 9:30 to 10:30 Monday morning. His Body will be laid to rest in Zion Cemetery. He will be honored for his Military Service at the gravesite by the American Legion Post 127 and the National Guard. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to be made to the Murphysboro Food Pantry, the First Lutheran Church, Sallie Logan Library and John A. Logan Museum.
