Obituary for Edward J Clayton

Edward J Clayton 87, of Murphysboro, passed away Tuesday, July 9th, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Edward was born on June 14, 1932, in Chicago Illinois, to Dexter Clayton and Martha (Ferguson) Clayton.

Mr. Clayton was a USAF Veteran of the Korean war and he was an Electroinc Tech at SIU and had his Masters Degree. Edward was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of De Soto, American Legion Post 127, and the Murphysboro Senior Citizens.

Edward and Shirley Clayton were married on December 18, 1953, in Murphysboro, IL.

Survivors include six children: Teresa Porter and her husband, Bill Porter of Murphysboro, Dr. Patti Rosenberger and her husband Terry Rosenberger of Vergennes, Susan Wininger, Cathy Cruz and her husband Anthony Cruz, all of Murphysboro, Edward Clayton Jr. and his wife Sharon, of Rolla, MO and Major Richard "Rick" Clayton and his wife Mindy Clayton, of Fort Benning, GA.; Sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Dr. Roberta Craigmyle of Springfield, MO, and Linda Erb of Chester IL.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Clayton, one brother, Paul Clayton, and one grandson, Scott Rosenberger.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday the 12th, at Pettett Funeral Home, and from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Funeral Services will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Preston Foster officiating. Burial will be in Parrish Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Christ the King Lutheran Church or to the Murphysboro Food Pantry.
