Emma L. Stein, 94, of Murphysboro, passed away in the morning hours on Thursday August 8, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Emma was born on February 1, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas, to Herman L. Boston and Ellen (Lawrence) Boston.
She married Robert Stein on May 21, 1949, in Ava, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1995.
Mrs. Stein was a faithful member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, where she was a quilter. She was also a member of St. Andrew Altar Society and helped with funeral dinners.
Emma was the kindest person that you would ever meet, and she was an awesome mother! She was also an avid Cardinal fan.
She is survived by two sons David Eugene Stein, Sr. and his wife Janet R. Stein and Richard Stein and his wife Glenna Stein, both of Murphysboro;
one daughter Barbara Stein of Murphysboro;
thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren;
and one sister Betty Stein of Warren, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Stein, one daughter Mary Stein, two grandchildren Erika Brouillette, and Zachary Stein, and her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2019, in St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating and burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to be made to the St. Andrew Quilters in memory of Emma.
