Obituary

Geraldine M. McConnell, 84, of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Manor Court of Carbondale.

Geraldine was born on April 6, 1936, in Peoria, Illinois, to Michael Schultz and Zelis (Baggs) Schultz.

She had worked at several occupations, and the last one, she and her husband operated a Home day care.

Mrs. McConnell was a member of the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro, where she had served as a past secretary of that church and other churches, where she had been a member at over the years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter # 522, Anna, Illinois.

She loved music and she played both the piano and organ. She loved art, plants and flowers, and children. She especially loved her Jack Russell dogs--Katy, Lulu, and Annie.

Geraldine married Gale McConnell on January 15, 1955, in Sparland, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on August 29, 2013.

She is survived by three daughters all from Murphysboro: Peggy Homan, Lori Graff and her husband Danny Lawson, and Merry Korando and her husband Chris Korando;

three grandchildren Angela (Dan) Wilcoxen of Springfield, U.S.A.F Major Mark (Lana) Graff of Shiloh, IL and Jordan (Ryan) Henderson of Energy;

and six great grandchildren Carly, Ben and Emma Wilcoxen, J.D. and Taylor Graff, and Ivey Henderson.

She was preceded in death by one brother Michael Schultz and her parents.

There will be a private family visitation and then her body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 522 of Anna, IL, and can be mailed to Pettett Funeral Home,1418 South Street, Murphysboro, IL 62966. Sending thoughts and prayers to the family. I worked with Gerry at Famous-Barr. She was a wonderful lady. After she retired, a few years later, I ended up moving a few houses down from her and Gayle. I would then stop by and see her at Manor Court. She was such a sweet soul with a bright smile. Loved all the stories she would tell, and will continue to remember all the good times that were shared.
