Obituary for Harold "Hal" A. Zimmerman

Harold "Hal" Zimmerman, 68, of Murphysboro, passed away with his wife by his side, at 12:43 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Harold was born on September 1, 1950, in Oraville, Illinois, to Harold D. Zimmerman and (Alma) Daisy (Yearian) Zimmerman.

He was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed NASCAR racing. But his greatest love was doing anything that involved his grandkids.

He served in the National Guard. Then he went to work as a coal miner at the Old Ben # 24 Coal mine and was a member of the U.M.W.A. Local # 1245 of District 12.

Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro.

Hal married Barbara Adams on November 18, 1972, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

Other survivors included his mother, who passed away on the evening of his death,

two children Corey Zimmerman and Kellee (Stephen) Ticer, all of Murphysboro;

three grandchildren Grant Ticer, Hallee Ticer, and Ethan Zimmerman;

two brothers and their wives Gary and Donna Zimmerman of Panama City Beach, FL and Mike and Fran Zimmerman of Hillville, VA;

four nieces; one great niece and three great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother Larry Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019, at Pettett Funeral Home and burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Kidney Foundation at the funeral home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
