Obituary

Murphysboro- James Patrick Loy, 88, of Murphysboro, went to be with Our Lord at 1:53 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2019 while surrounded by family at Manor court of Carbondale.

James Patrick was born on October 6, 1931 in Murphysboro to Charles and Helen (Parris) Loy. He married Patricia Ann “Trish” Prost on September 23, 1952 in Murphysboro. She preceded him in death in March 10, 2012.

He was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard where he served bravely as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Once honorably discharged, he began a long career with the plumbers and pipe-fitters. James taught plumbing classes through the UA Local 160 in Murphysboro for decades and was a member of the Union since 1951. He owned his own business- E. A Kraft Plumbing and Heating in Murphysboro for more than 40 years.

He was catholic and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro. In addition to the Pipe-fitters union, he was also a former member of the American Legion and the Murphysboro Rotary Club.

He was an outgoing man who never met a stranger. He was honest to a fault and loved people. He enjoyed spending time outdoors boating and fishing on Kinkaid Lake. He dearly loved life, drinking a cold beer and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include his daughters- Jane Jenkins and husband Terry of Antioch, Elizabeth Clover and husband Brad of Murphysboro and Julie Loy and Dee Cross of Carbondale, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two sisters Barb Grosvenor of Murphysboro, and Nancy and her husband Don Siefert of Murphysboro, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son- Michael and his brother- Charles “Jack” Loy.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 21, 2019 at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Fr. Gary Gummersheimer will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery in Murphysboro. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Murphysboro VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.

Masses at St. Andrew Catholic Church and or donations for the Activities Room at Manor Court in Carbondale are suggested in lieu of flowers. Memorial donations will be accepted at Pettett Funeral Home/ 1418 South Street/ Murphysboro, IL 62966. For more information please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
