Obituary

Kenneth Ray Varner, 84, of Murphysboro, passed away at his residence, in Murphysboro, at 4:41 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020.

Kenneth was born on January 10, 1936, in Murphysboro, to Ray H. Varner and Millie (Norman) Varner.

He had served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Varner had worked at the former Lustour and Curwood Plants retiring as a Color Matcher in the Ink Department.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 127. He liked to go hunting and fishing, and he and his wife enjoyed camping and were a member of the Coachman Camping Club.

Kenneth loved spending time with his family, including his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

Kenneth married Patricia Koenig on April 5, 1958, in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2018.

He is survived by three children Kevin Varner, Richard "Rick" Varner and his wife Mary Beth Varner, all of Murphysboro, and Marsha McCulloch and her husband Greg McCulloch of Harrisburg;

three grandchildren Bethany Varner and her fiancee John Ryman of Murphysboro, Amber McCulloch of Harrisburg, and Kristen Lewis and her husband Daniel Lewis of Carrier Mills;

four great grandchildren Bella Ryman, Leighton Miller, Hutson Lewis and Holden Lewis;

two brothers Robert Varner and Gary Varner and his wife Ann Varner, all of Murphysboro;

one sister in law Darlene Porter and her husband Mike Porter, of Murphysboro;

several nieces and nephews;

and a dear friend Marge Smith of Murphysboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gravesite with Rev James Easton officiating and Military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127 of Murphysboro, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2020, at Murdale Gardens of Memory. There will be a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
