Obituary

Louis "Toppy" Dallas, 94, of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Louis was born on July 2, 1924, in Cobden, Illinois, to Harry Dallas and Ruby (Gates) Dallas.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Dallas worked at the former Grandpa Johns in Murphysboro, and retired from the Maintenance Department at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital.

Toppy married Dorothy Manus on December 29, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas, and she preceded him in death on January 11, 1970. He later married Velma on June 3, 1976 in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on August 3, 2003.

Mr. Dallas was a 50 year member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190.

He is survived by one son and daughter in law Bruce and Barbara Dallas of Murphysboro;

two grandchildren James Dallas of Murphysboro and Kelly Torrance of CA;

and two great grandchildren Shantel Torrance and Joshua Torrance, both of Naples, FL.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Beverly Dallas in 1971, two brothers Harry and Bill Dallas, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Pettett Funeral Home with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating and burial at DeSoto Cemetery with military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Murphysboro Senior Citizens or to the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Tippy will always be remembered as a loving, kind, person.He was Special.My parents knew him well,.My mom used to tell me,Toppy changed your diapers! lol later in the years we'd laugh bout it.
RIP ..TOPPY...YOU WERE A BLESSING TO MANY JUST BY YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT.
