Obituary for Matthew Lee Varnum

Matthew Lee Varnum, 51, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Matthew was born on October 17, 1968, in LaSalle, Illinois, to Victor and Frances (Clover) Varnum.

He was a truck driver for twenty years.

Mr. Varnum was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Murphysboro.

He and Kim enjoyed going camping and they liked to go to antique stores.

He married Kim Dailey on April 11, 2009, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

Other survivors include his father Victor Varnum of Murphysboro;

two step children Jamie Swafford and Joseph (Mallory) Swafford, all of Murphysboro;

three grandchildren Makyah Varnum, Trevor Huppert, and Iva Jo Swafford;

two sisters Mary Brindley of Ava and Melody Loechler of Avon Lake, OH;

three sisters in law Cheryl Varnum of Johnson City, Vicki (Fred) Evans of Murphysboro and Karen Busch of Herrin;

two brothers in law Dennis Dailey of Murphysboro and Mike Dailey of Vergennes;

and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother Leon Varnum, and one nephew Josh Varnum.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Raglin officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the church.
