Ronald F. Wheeler, 81, of Murphysboro, went to be with the Lord at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Ronald was born on March 31, 1937, in Murphysboro, to Claude W. Wheeler and Louise (Dillinger) Wheeler.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
Ron had worked for the Brown Shoe Company and then went to work and retired from Curwood in Murphysboro.
Mr. Wheeler was a very active member of Elm Street Baptist Church, where he helped at the Holy Grounds Coffee Bar, the Food Pantry and helped with funeral dinners.
Ron married Sheila Harris on March 31, 1960 in Cutler, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 1995. He then married Martha Hill on September 12, 1995, in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on May 8, 2008.
He is survived by one son and daughter in law Steven and Lisa Wheeler of Rockport, IN;
three grandchildren and one great granddaughter Aaron Wheeler, Rachel (Barrett) Fisher and daughter Emma, and Evan Wheeler and his fiancée Kalyn;
two step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren Justin Rainwater and his daughters Kylie and Shelby, and Kaitlyn Rainwater and her sons Andrew, Braden, Cylus, and Damian;
four step children Stephanie Cole and her children Jacob Lewis, Sara Cole and daughter Hannah, DeWayne (Mariann) Crowell and their children Daniel McRoberts, April Ripley, Heather Hartung and Adam Crowell, and Brian (Gail) Crowell and their son Blake, and Leandra (Russell) Bryant and their children Lucas Bryant and Holly Bryant and her son Rigdon;
and one sister Patty Patterson of Pinckneyville.
He was preceded in death by one brother John Michael Wheeler and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at Elm Street Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Allen officiating and burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. The family would prefer memorials to Elm Street Baptist Church.
