Obituary

Teresa Ann (Dakin) Sauer passed from this world on Friday, June 5th, 2020 at her home in Murphysboro. She was born in Hayward, California to Joseph T. Dakin Sr. and spouse Olga E. Dakin on March 1st, 1963.
Teresa was a graduate of Carbondale Community High School and John A. Logan College of Nursing. She completed her studies and became a registered nurse (RN). She was employed as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and then as a Trauma Flight Nurse for Air-Evac. She was next employed as an ER and Trauma Nurse at Memorial Hospital (later SIH) in Carbondale, Illinois for over 30 years.

She voluntarily ended her career at SIH and became a caretaker for shelter animals, working to care for abused, unwanted, and neglected animals. She was a lifelong volunteer caretaker for ill friends, relatives, and anyone who requested assistance (“You needed help, you called Teresa!”).
She is survived by her loving family: husband Thomas J. Sauer, son Brian T. Sauer and Amie Monreal, son Bradley J. Sauer and Lizzie Virgil, sisters in law Debra Sauer and Marilyn and her husband Steve Zak; father Joseph T. Dakin Sr. and dearest friend and stepmother Jodi Dakin; sister Christine Dakin (CRNA), sister Patricia (Dakin) Bank (LPN) and her husband Achim Bank, brother Joseph T. Dakin Jr. and his wife Cindy (O’Brien) Dakin (FNP), and brother James Hill and his wife Kristina McRell-Hill, nephews Nathan, Collen, Riley, Oliver, and Tristan Hill.

Teresa was an avid animal rehabilitator, recycler, and foremost a loving friend to all. Her strength, compassion, and courage knew no boundaries. Her sense of humor was generous. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and best friend to everyone. She is already missed by a multitude family, friends, colleagues, and animals, including her dog Lea. She remains a most beloved member of a large and loving family. After caring for everyone else, she enjoyed fishing, scrapping, spending time on vacation at the Gulf with friends and family, and attempting to be a good friend, confidant, and advocate for every person and animal.

In loving memory, a foal was named T2 Ann on her sister’s farm the day after her passing.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Olga E. Dakin, niece Morgan Jesse, brother-in-law, Les C. Higgins, and father- and mother-in-law, John and Audrey Sauer.
Her family asks that you remember her in your prayers. Her love was limitless, and our love for her remains timeless. We should all endeavor to be as kind, strong, and caring as our beloved Teresa. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
Memorial donations can be found on Teresa’s memorial facebook page.
Teresa, shine your light in Heaven so we may all see you again.

I used to visit with Teresa when we were both working nights, her- ER, me-CPD. She always used to try to talk me into bring my K9 Vader into the ER to sniff for drugs. I believe that Teresa saved my life by getting me moved from a small hospital to Memorial Hosp. when I had massive bilateral emboli. I loved her. She was kind and funny, smart and stubborn, with unlimited patience for those under her care. Though I hadn’t seen Teresa much recently it was always comforting to know she was around. The fact that she is gone leaves a black spot where that light was. Condolences to her family. She will be so missed
