Walter Crane, 69, of Murphysboro, went home to be with his Lord at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2020, at his residence in Murphysboro, Illinois.

Walter was born on May 31, 1950, in Murphysboro, to Lester Crane and Lorene (Hawkins) Crane.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Mr. Crane was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 in Murphysboro.

He retired from the I.B.E.W. Local # 702 as a tree trimmer for line clearance. He worked all over Southern Illinois and made a lot of friends as he worked.He took a lot of pride in doing a good job for the customers.

If you knew Walt, then you could tell some crazy stories about the things he has done and have a good laugh. But Walt was best known for loving his family, friends, and the Home Farm he was raised on. Some of the best days were just sitting around a camp fire on the river bank or taking one of many of his boats and running down the river. He also loved fishing on the Beaucoup, riding trails and spending time with his family and especially his nieces and nephews.

Walt married Euba Johnson on March 26, 1971, and she survives.

Other survivors include one son Jonathan Crane of Murphysboro;

four sisters and two brothers Lizzie Launius, Leonard Crane, Helen (John) Russell, Lillian (Floyd "Gene") Johnson, Roy (Julie) Crane, and Arlene (Bill) Rinehart, all of Murphysboro;

and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Ida "Jane" House and Alice Launius, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Pettett Funeral Home and burial at Parrish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital or St. Jude's Hospital. For more information, please visit
